A GIS based solution for tracking & reporting JULIE locate requests

Abstract
In this presentation I will describe and demonstrate the GIS based solution we have developed at the City of DeKalb to track and respond to JULIE locate requests. This became necessary when a state law took effect that requires member agencies to not only mark their underground facilities but also provide a response to JULIE describing the status. We’ll start with some background and history of the facility location process at the City of DeKalb and how it has changed. We will then dive into the solution we’ve deployed including a mobile experience builder application for reporting locate statuses and a dashboard for viewing locates. Some of the things you’ll see demonstrated/explained include using Python to connect with and make API calls, log progress and send email notifications when issues arise. I’ll also touch on our use of Arcade expressions to customize symbology and popups, then show how we use automation methods to make it all run with no human interaction. Finally, we’ll discuss the benefits of this solution in comparison with manual methods for responding before ending with a look at potential future improvements and questions.
