Indoor Mapping Data Integration into Emergency Management Planning for Active Shooter Threats in Schools

Abstract

Indoor mapping data has strong, clear uses across several emergency contexts. Most typically, indoor mapping data is leveraged as a tool that 911 dispatchers can use to give emergency response personnel better insight into the potentially dangerous areas where they must perform response functions. Given the inherently invaluable function of data such as this, this data also stands to be leveraged by those planning emergency procedures well in advance as well. In this, the current presentation intends to provide some insights into the application of this data in emergency management threat assessment and planning, with an emphasis on egress for a school population under an active shooter threat. Furthermore, the current presentation also intends to address how the application of this data in emergency management threat assessment and planning may be scaled to allow for larger-scale or smaller-scale implementation and integration with existing emergency management planning under a given jurisdiction.
