Modern GIS Collaboration: Communication and Research to Produce Results in Real Time for OMLP

Abstract
Collaborative efforts are foundational to the long-term success of modern GIS projects where stakeholder input is paramount. When project stakeholders voice an issue of concern, research efforts become prioritized towards producing verifiable results to resolve the issue in real time. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Owned, Managed, and Leased Properties (OMLP) Project uses collaborative efforts like these to expand its vast database of state owned and leased properties that are managed to preserve valuable wildlife habitats while supporting a variety of hunting opportunities across Illinois. Parcel acquisitions, habitat management updates, public feedback, and stakeholder input continually enhance the integrity of the OMLP database. Ultimately, these iterative updates result in safeguarding critical habitat while expanding hunting and outdoor recreational opportunities across more than 300 IDNR sites throughout Illinois.
